Lost or Found Animal

I Lost an Animal

First and most importantly STAY CALM. Losing a pet can be scary, but it's important to have a clear mind and act quickly. The following steps can help your animal get home to safety.

  1. Don't wait! Immediately search your neighborhood or the area where your pet was lost and let people know they are missing.

  2. Call your pet’s name and check any places they could have become trapped.

  3. Use food can lure your pet to you.

  4. Check with your local shelters regularly.

  5. Call all animal control agencies in your town and surrounding areas. Animal control officers work through the police department and pick up stray animals. Be sure to leave a description of your pet and a contact number.

  6. Use your pet’s photo to make “lost pet” signs and post them around the area your pet went missing.

  7. Post your lost pet on social media. Your town/area likely has a Facebook group so spread the word!

  8. Visit the websites of national locator services www.petfinder.com and www.pets911.com.

  9. Remember that pets wearing ID tags increase their chances of finding their way back home.
